Animals of Rabatalu

Cameroon dwarf goats

Alpacas

In the autumn of 2023, two dwarf goats, Aadu and Maali, joined the family of Rabatalu. They resemble capricorns and like to climb a lot. They are very friendly, especially when they get carrots and when they are stroked.

In the autumn of 2023, three alpacas straight from Muhumaa joined the other animals. The female is called Kaisa, her son is Sass, and there is also Juss, born from another pedigree in the spring of 2023. Alpaca wool is 100% hypoallergenic. Many people think that alpacas like to spit, but that is not the case here at Rabatalu! Sass has very beautiful eyes like that of a prince. He enjoys eating carrots and apples.

Kangaroos

Guido and Albert are three-and-a-half years old (as of January 2024) and came to us from Muhumaa where they had previously arrived from the Netherlands. They survived our -27 C frosty winter just fine, with only their whiskers being frozen in the mornings. They are timid, but cute.

Rabbits

Rabbits were the first Rabatalu animals to come to us from Alutaguse, from our dear friend Anu. Karla, Juta, floppy-eared Tarmo Junior and Liisa like Rabatalu very much. They love to sit on your lap, eat carrots and oats and to be stroked.

Ostriches

Jüri, Mari, Kairi came to us from Lääne-Virumaa. They are 3.5-year-old adult birds (as of January 2024). You have to be careful with them because they like to steal your phone when you are filming them. They can take your hat off and we have affectionately nicknamed them the Hungry Rats, as the they can eat a cabbage head in a few seconds.

Husky

Mia is the first hostess of Rabatalu. Mia arrived to us directly from the capital in the spring of 2023. This city lady seems to enjoy the rural life! She loves to run and play around.

Kitty

Fish

A kitty also came to Rabatalu from Alutaguse. Kiki the kitty is the keeper of the animal farm and the fear of mice. She is a guardian because her favourite place to sleep is in the hay in the rabbits' crib, and she is like a security camera – watching from high up on the fence. She also enjoys eating salad leaves and carrots, side by side with rabbits. Let's hope she does not turn into a rabbit herself!

In fact, Kiki is named after Gigi, the daughter of Kobe Bryant who is the idol of our young host Harl. Unfortunately, both Gigi and Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash.

In the pond of Rabatalu live koi, ide and amur fish. In the summer, it is possible to feed them with bread from the pond shore. In winter, they go to rest in the deeper layers of the pond, and then you can't see them.

Wild animals

A wildlife cafeteria is located 500 metres away from Rabatalu. This is where we usually take fruits and vegetables with our children. In winter, when it is difficult for wild animals to find food, the animals can enjoy the good stuff. In autumn, we also work with the community to deliver, for example, leftover garden produce.

Why was the wildlife feeding area created in the first place? Years ago, wild boars did a lot of harm to our yard, ploughing it all up. Since they have their own place to enjoy the good things, they no longer come to our home yard.

Who eats with us? Wild boars, moose, bears, raccoon dogs, wolves, foxes, squirrels, lynxes, hares – all these wild animals are respected costumers of our forest restaurant.
